Alzheimer's Research UK
Alzheimer's Research UK is on a mission to find a life-
changing treatment for dementia.
That mission is fueled in part by their supporter-led fundraising team,
which has been at the forefront of virtual fundraising challenges since
they launched Running Down Dementia in 2016.
2020 was due to be the year of "The Treble Challenge," the first time
they would combine Running Down Dementia, Cycling Down Dementia,
and Swimming Down Dementia into a year-long virtual fundraising
triathlon. That was until COVID-19 hit.
We caught up with their Sporting Events Manager Megan Ruddlesden
to find out how they've managed to adapt, launch, and still raise vital
funds for their research during a pandemic.
Q: How did COVID-19 affect your plans for
The Treble?
A: A year's worth of planning had already happened when the UK
went into lockdown, and overnight everything we had worked so hard
to launch in April was suddenly put on hold. We knew we couldn't
continue with our triathlon messaging, as the swimming aspect was no
longer feasible, let alone the restrictions on general exercise.
